Summit 2024: the project for creating the Almaty mountain cluster
The roadmap for creating the Almaty mining cluster was discussed at a Forum in Almaty with the participation of local and international experts.
The Summit of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts (EAMR) was held in the Oi-Qaragai Mountain Resort. The representatives of the EAMR gathered to discuss the creation of a new mountain tourism cluster in Almaty, which implementation is included in the National Development Plan of Kazakhstan until 2029, as one of the three most promising areas of tourism development in the country.
The project involves the integration of central ski resorts with cable cars and interconnection infrastructure. It is planned that a system of modern gondola lifts will connect several large mountain gorges around Almaty and unite Oi Qaragai, Ak-Tas, Pioneer, Tabagan, Butakovka, Medeo and Shymbulak into a single tourist zone with 150 km of ski trails in winter and more than 100 km of walking routes in summer.
As a result of the implementation of this project, the Almaty cluster should become a popular part of the Interstate Tourist route of the EAMR and attract a considerable number of tourists from countries of Eurasia and around the world to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was attended by the heads of five EAMR mountain resorts: Rosa Khutor, Amirsoy, Shakhdag, Shymbulak and Oi-Qaragai, as well as, by the heads of three resorts interested in joint development from Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and South Korea.
Within the framework of the Forum, the Charter of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts - a set of fundamental principles, goals and objectives - was solemnly signed.
Also at the Summit 2024, the EAMR accepted the sixth participant into its association - the South Korean Resort Mona YongPyong.
